Hello, Darling – what a great time!   September 7th, 2010

We had an amazing time filming Shelagh Carter’s Hello, Darling in August. I can’t say enough great things about the incredibly talented and hard-working cast and crew! Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen – on set and off.

What a joy to see Shelagh’s powerful story brought to life so beautifully and what a privlege to produce this project!

Now our editor is diving in – look forward to sharing a trailer for the film. Stay in touch with what’s happening with the project at the Facebook page and the project site.

Shelagh and I are heading to the Toronto Film Festival to meet with some folks and watch some other great Canadian (and international) films, and then I’m going on to the Atlantic Film Festival to more of the same under less hectic conditions! Should be a wonderful two weeks!

Current Projects   April 30th, 2010

Just a quick update as to what I’m currently working on:

I’m thrilled to be Production Manager for Guy Maddin’s new film Keyhole, produced by Buffalo Gal Pictures.

I’m equally thrilled to be preparing Shelagh Carter’s first feature Hello, Darling to film in August. We’ve recently submitted the project to Telefilm for consideration. We’re workshopping the script with local actors and will be casting in June.

I’m producing a short film with Ian Yorski, who was just accepted to the Canadian Film Centre’s screenwriting program. We’ll be holding a reading of Ian’s feature Anything But Kerouac later this month.

I’m also consulting on two television projects, and developing two other feature projects.

And in my “spare time” co-developing an iPhone app of use to editors, producers and others.

Black Field, Danishka Esterhazy’s feature that I was Line Producer on last spring, will have a special two-week engagement at Winnipeg Cinematheque beginning May 28. Other screenings across Canada are being finalized. The film recently won Best Canadian Feature at the Female Eye Festival.

Black Field at Vancouver Film Festival   September 28th, 2009

I’m happy to report that Black Field, the feature I line produced this spring, will premier at the Vancouver International Film Festival next month.

It will screen October 13 at 9 pm and October 14 at 12:20 pm at the Empire Granville.

The current issue of Reel West has Black Field as its cover story. Great pics and quotes from cast and crew.

Well it’s been an extraordinary few weeks!

Danishka Esterhazy’s first feature, on which I was proud to be line producer/production manager, is officially in the can. And since we shot on film, that still means something!

This was my first feature-length, and I learned sooo much. The sheer endurance required to shoot day after day, for one thing! And a different kind of endurance for the producers Two Lagoons, wrestling with the complexities of financing a film in Canada!

But it was all worth it. From the dailies, I can assure everyone that it will be GORGEOUS. Paul Suderman, the DP; Ricardo Alms, the Art Director, and Danishka have once again merged their talents into an incomparable alchemy of beauty:

The amazing crew persevered through every conceivable weather: snow, sleet, rain, wind storms… We thank everyone for their hard work, and their incredible energy and enthusiasm.

Now on to post-production, hoping to have a reasonable edit in time to get VIFF or TIFF to bring it to their festival-goers this fall.
